Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Red Dragons Sweep Home-and-Home Series vs. Morrisville with 3-0 Win

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's ice hockey team scored a pair of second-period power-play goals and added a late empty-net goal to earn a 3-0 home SUNYAC win versus Morrisville Saturday afternoon in the second game of a weekend home-and-home series. The Red Dragons swept the two games with two shutouts and improved to 14-3-1 overall and 9-2-1 in the conference.

Junior Meggan Cramer (Cicero/Northwood School) and freshmen Katie Mahoney (Toronto, ON/Toronto Leaside) and McKenzie Brown (Peru/Lovell Academy) each netted goals for Cortland. Graduate student Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) and sophomore Kayla Persinger (Lewiston/Newark Ironbound) collected two assists apiece, while senior Molly McCabe (Webster/18UAA Webster) and sophomore Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes) each picked up an assist.

Junior goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 25 saves for the Red Dragons, including multiple acrobatic stops on point-blank shots, in posting her fourth shutout of the season. Junior goalie Elizabeth Timby turned aside 32 shots for the Mustangs (8-9, 3-7 SUNYAC).

After a scoreless first period, Mahoney opened the scoring with her seventh goal of the season at 7:39 of the second period, putting in a rebound in front on the power play. Brown made it a 2-0 game at 12:14 also on the power play, scoring on a wrist shot from the high slot for her third goal of the season.

In the third period, each goalie came up with key saves to hold the score at 2-0. With 1:58 remaining, Morrisville pulled Timby for an extra skater. Twenty-two seconds later the Red Dragons iced the game when Cramer converted a 2-on-1 into the empty net for the 3-0 final.
