CLINTON, N.Y. – The nationally 15th-ranked Cortland women's ice hockey team stretched its unbeaten streak to eight straight games after playing to a 1-1 overtime tie at seventh-ranked Hamilton Tuesday night in non-conference action at Russell Sage Rink.
Freshman
Drew Kopek (Rome/Syracuse Valley Eagles) scored the goal for the Red Dragons (14-3-2). Sophomore
Hayley Hunter (Pulaski/NAHA) assisted on the goal. Junior goalie
Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) turned aside 27 shots.
Lilly Truchon netted the goal for the Continentals (11-3-2). Cuora Sullivan and Lydia Bullock each collected an assist. Goalie Teagan Brown registered 20 saves.
Kopek gave Cortland the lead at 10:44 of the first period. Hunter poked the puck away from a Hamilton player near the Cortland blue line. Kopek skated onto the puck and beat Brown with a shot over her glove on a breakaway. After a scoreless second period, Truchon tied the game at 2:31 of the third period, scoring on a deflection in front.
In overtime, the Red Dragons outshot the Continentals, 3-2, and had a final chance for the game winner just before the final horn but Brown denied a bid by senior
Kait Bourgeois (Cobden, ON//Ottawa Thunder) to hold the score at 1-1.
