#15 Red Dragons Rally Late to Defeat Oswego, 4-1

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 15th-ranked Cortland women's ice hockey team scored three goals in a two minute, eight second span late in the third period to break a tie game in earning a 4-1 victory in SUNYAC action Friday night at Alumni Arena. The Red Dragons improved to 15-3-2 overall and 10-2-1 in the conference. The Lakers dropped to 8-9-1 and 6-4-1.

Junior Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) registered a goal and an assist for Cortland, while junior Natalie O'Brien (Lockport/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles), sophomore Fanny Aneborn (Linkoping, Sweden/Lulea HF Sweden) and freshman Drew Kopek (Rome/Syracuse Valley Eagles) each added a goal. Graduate student Dany Donegan (Cicero/Syracuse Nationals) and senior Jillian Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) collected assists. Junior goalie Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 22 saves.

Junior Mack Hall netted her ninth goal of the season for Oswego. Junior Simone Bednarik and freshman Leah Coley assisted on the score. Junior goalie Lexi Levy registered 35 saves.

Hull gave the Lakers the lead at 7:51 of the first period, scoring on a rebound in front on the power play. Late in the first period and spanning into early in the second period, Cortland had a two-player skating advantage on the power play for 1:32, but Levy turned aside five shots to keep the Red Dragons off the scoreboard. Hlasnick evened the score at the 8:27 mark of the period, picking off a pass in the Laker defensive zone and beating Levy with a shot one-on-one.

With 4:39 left in the period, a Cortland player was penalized for covering the puck in the crease, which led to an Oswego penalty shot. Goergen came up with a save on senior Rachel Corbett to keep the score tied at 1-1.

Aneborn netted the game winner at 16:44 of the third period with a rebound goal. O'Brien made it a 3-1 score at 18:06 when her intended pass deflected toward goal where Levy knocked the puck into the net. Just 46 seconds later, Kopek sealed the win when she fired a shot over Levy's glove after an Oswego turnover in its defensive zone for the 4-1 victory.
