ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team posted seven individual wins and one relay first-place finish and defeated Oneonta, 130.5-93.5 in a dual meet at Oneonta.
Lucas Gannon (Schenectady/Mohonasen) earned two wins with his performances in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:46.57) and 500-yard freestyle (5:09.91).
Hunter Bernhardt (Groton) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.42),
Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) took top honors in the 100-yard butterfly (55.66), and
Hunter Sugrue-Neuendorf (Valley Cottage/Nyack) won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.84) as an exhibition entry.
Cortland won the opening 200-yard medley relay as
Makiah Poli (Cortland/Home schooled), Sugrue-Neuendorf,
Sam Zani (Irondequoit) and
Peter Brelesky (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) finished the race in 1:42.06.
Since Oneonta only has a 1-meter diving board, the divers completed 11 dives on that board and the scores were broken down into "5 dive" and "6 dive" scores for team scoring.
Lance Meeson (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) recorded a total score of 474.30 points and was first in both breakdowns (286.90 for six dives, 187.40 for five dives).
Kaz Kadota-Browner (Jericho) earned second-place points in both breakdowns as his total score of 461.40 points featured 284.20 points for six dives and 177.20 points for five dives).
Cortland swept the top three spots in the 200-yard freestyle. After Bernhardt's win,
Mason Rowlands (Campbell Hall/Washingtonville) was second in 1:51.25 and
Ethan Domanico (New Windsor/Newburgh Free Academy) placed third in 1:52.59.
Sugrue-Neuendorf finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.76) and Poli was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.52).
Sean Zupko (Montgomery/Valley Central) was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (57.00),
Ben Bruning-Smith (Lockport/Starpoint) was second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:24.72), and Rowlands tied for second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.89).
