Nine Individual First-Place Finishes Lead Cortland Women Past Oneonta, 129-95

Angie Gittschau won the 1,000-yard freestyle
ONEONTA, N.Y. – Cortland earned individual first-place finishes from nine different people plus both relays and the Red Dragons defeated host Oneonta, 129-95, in dual-meet action.
 
Cortland opened the meet with a sweep of the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Anna Stahurski (Oakdale/Connetquot), Ella Garrow (Peru), Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) and Alayna Miller (Hilton) won the race in 2:00.14, followed by Rhianna Lynch (New Hartford), Emma Bogdanowicz-Wilson (Schenectady), Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) and Kaila O'Hara (East Islip) in 2:01.56.
 
Angie Gittschau (Camillus/West Genesee) won the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:48.96), Leah Bernhardt (Groton) won the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.09) and Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates Chili) captured the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.60). Martinez-Reyes won the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.02), Miller was the 100-yard freestyle victor (57.53) and Garrow won the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.28).
 
Emily Lantry (Helena/St. Lawrence) was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle (5:40.54) and Bogdanowicz-Wilson was the top swimmer in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.39) as an exhibition entry.
 
Since Oneonta only has a 1-meter diving board, the divers completed 11 dives on that board and the scores were broken down into "5 dive" and "6 dive" scores for team scoring. Alyssa Haberlack (Long Beach) finished with a score of 331.55 points over 11 dives. Her six-dive total of 195.80 earned her first-place points and she was third with her five-dive total of 135.75 points. Madison Heffern (Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert Christian) finished with a combined score of 318.30 points, including second-place scores in both "events" (180.05 points for six dives, 138.25 points for five dives).
 
Also for the Red Dragons, the combination of Garrow, Lantry, Miller and Lynch won the 200-yard freestylre relay as an exhibition entry (1:45.93). Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) and Mackenzie Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) completed a top-three sweep in the 100-yard butterfly behind Martinez-Reyes. Elsasser was second in 1:04.83 and Dickman third in 1:06.45.
