Red Dragons Enjoy Hot First Half in 83-72 Win vs. Geneseo

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland shot 52 percent from the field, including 50 percent (15-of-30) from the 3-point arc, and the Red Dragons defeated Geneseo, 83-72, in a SUNYAC men's basketball game at Corey Gymnasium. 
 
Cortland improved to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in the SUNYAC, while Geneseo fell to 4-6 and 1-2. The Red Dragons will host Brockport Saturday at 4 p.m. 
 
Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by the Sea) led Cortland with 22 points, marking the third straight game in which he's set a career high in scoring. He made 10-of-18 field goals and added three assists and three rebounds. TayShaun Hawkins (Riverhead) recorded career highs of 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks. He hit 5-of-6 shots from the 3-point arc. Danny Linehan (Blauvelt/Tappan Zee) made 4-of-7 3-pointers and 6-of-9 shots overall to finish with 16 points, and Pierre Hajjar (Brussels, Belgium/Victory Rock Prep) made 4-of-5 shots, 2-of-3 from deep, to finish with 10 points. 
 
Jaylen Warmack (Utica/Utica Notre Dame) scored nine points and matched his career high with seven assists. Kareem Lubin (Monroe/Washingtonville) chipped in with six rebounds and five assists. 
 
Josh Garelle led Geneseo with 17 points and 10 rebounds. He made 8-of-11 shots. Sebastian Pacheco ended with 15 points, four assists, three steals and three rebounds, and Robert Pericolosi tallied 13 points. 
 
Cortland scored the game's first nine points and never trailed. The Red Dragons shot 58 percent in the opening half and led 48-26 at the break. Arcuri scored 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting and Hawkins was 4-of-5 from the field, all from 3-point range, for 12 points in the first 20 minutes. 
 
The Red Dragons' lead quickly grew to 25 points three minutes into the second half, and Cortland led by as many as 30 points at 69-39 with 12:16 left. Geneseo cut its deficit to 19 points with 5:48 left and got as close as nine points at 81-72 in the final minute.
