CORTLAND, N.Y. – After shooting just 21 percent in the first half and trailing by two at halftime, the Cortland women's basketball team bounced back to shoot 62 percent in the second half and defeated visiting Brockport, 69-48, in SUNYAC action.
The Red Dragons (8-3, 4-0 SUNYAC) were 8-for-38 from the field over the opening 20 minutes and trailed 24-22 at the break. Cortland went 8-for-16 in the third quarter and built a 41-33 lead, the scorched the nets at a 13-for-18 clip in the fourth quarter to win going away. Cortland finished the game shooting 40 percent from the floor while holding the Golden Eagles to 28 percent shooting.
Abby Wilkinson (Cato/Bishop Grimes) led Cortland with a season-best 19 points, 13 in the second half, and added three assists.
Sophie Bissaillon (East Greenbush/Columbia) made three 3-pointers and tied her career best with 11 points.
Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) totaled nine points and
Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) had eight points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kaeli McAnally (Islip) led the Red Dragons with eight rebounds and shared the team lead with four assists.
Zoe Zutes was the lone double-figure scorer for Brockport (5-6, 1-3 SUNYAC) with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Zairea Hannah finished with eight points and 14 rebounds.
Cortland travels to New Paltz, currently 3-0 in the conference, on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Cortland defeated the Hawks at New Paltz in last year's SUNYAC championship game.
