Cortland Wins at New Paltz, 60-49, in Battle of League Unbeatens

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Cortland defeated host New Paltz, 60-49, in a matchup of two of the SUNYAC's top women's basketball teams.

Cortland improved to 9-3 overall and remained unbeaten in league play with a 5-0 mark. New Paltz dropped to 8-3 overall and is now 3-1 in the conference. The Red Dragons snapped the Hawks' 26-game SUNYAC regular-season win streak, which dated back to the 2021-22 season. Cortland defeated New Paltz on the road in the 2023 SUNYAC tournament championship game.

Streety's 23 points matches her career high, set earlier this season versus CCNY. She made 10-of-18 field goals and also recorded three steals. Abby Wilkinson (Cato/Bishop Grimes) was Cortland's other double-figure scorer with 14 points. Lily Woodis (Dewittville/Chautauqua Lake) totaled seven points and a career-best nine rebounds, Kaeli McAnally (Islip) finished with six points, three assists and a career-high tying eight rebounds, and Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) led the Red Dragons with five assists.

Brianna Fitzgerald led New Paltz with 10 points and three blocked shots. The All-American was held nine points below her season scoring average. Abby Korzekwinski and Jenny Walton each scored nine points and Semaiah Williams hauled in nine rebounds.

New Paltz led 7-2 to open the game and 12-10 with about three minutes left in the first quarter. Cortland, however, scored 10 straight points to end the quarter, including two baskets each by Streety and Wilkinson, to take a 20-12 lead.

The Red Dragons were up 27-20 midway through the second quarter and held the Hawks to one point the rest of the half. Sophie Bassaillon's (East Greenbush/Columbia) 3-pointer made it 30-20, and Streety hit two shots in the final two minutes to give the Dragons a 34-21 halftime lead.

Cortland led by double figures the entire second half. The Red Dragons' lead was 20 points on five occasions, the last at 60-40 with six minutes left. New Paltz scored the game's last nine points.

Cortland shot 47 percent in the first half and finished at 40 percent. New Paltz ended the game at 29 percent overall and 18 percent (3-of-17) from the 3-point arc.
