#8 Cortland Clinches SUNYAC Regular Season Title with 5-1 Win over New Paltz

CORTLAND, NY – Jamie Snyder (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) and Gianna Trunfio (Clinton) each scored twice as the nationally eighth-ranked Cortland field hockey team clinched the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) regular season title and top seed in the conference tournament in a 5-1 win over nationally-19th ranked New Paltz on Saturday afternoon. Cortland is now 13-1 (4-0 SUNYAC) on the year, while New Paltz drops to 12-4 (3-1 SUNYAC).

Coupled with her 33 points from two seasons at Vassar, and 69 points in her Cortland career, Trunfio surpassed 100 career points in the game. Snyder contributed an assist as well. Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) also scored and provided an assist for the Red Dragons, while Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) added an assist. Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) stopped three shots in goal for Cortland.

New Paltz's goal was scored by Emily Brown, while goalkeeper Madison Orsini made 12 saves for the Hawks.

Corrigan got the scoring started just over three minutes into the first period as Corrigan scored following a penalty corner. New Paltz tied the score shortly after following a penalty corner of its own. The Red Dragons pressed for a go-ahead goal in the quarter, but Orsini made three saves for the Hawks in the final five minutes of the frame.

Cortland continued to increase the pressure in the second quarter, and Trunfio netted with under four minutes remaining, taking a pass from Ettere and turning and firing into the goal.
Trunfio made it 3-1 in the opening five minutes of the third quarter sending a blast into the net from the center.

Less than one minute into the fourth quarter, Snyder netted her ninth goal of the season to make it 4-1 after dribbling around a defender and shooting past the goalie. Just 64 seconds later, Snyder netted her second goal, taking a lead pass from Corrigan and firing through the goalkeeper's legs to close out the scoring for Cortland.
