CANTON, N.Y. –
Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) and
Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) each scored twice as nationally eighth-ranked Cortland defeated host St. Lawrence, 5-1, in a non-league field hockey contest.
Cortland improved to 14-1 with the win while St. Lawrence dropped to 5-11. Cortland closes the regular season at home versus Skidmore Saturday – game time is 12:55 p.m., but the Red Dragons will be conducting their Senior Day earlier at about 11:45 a.m.
Ettere gave Cortland the lead with 3:22 left in the second quarter when she converted off a lead pass from
Isabel Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake). The lead grew to 2-0 less than two minutes later when Cortland was awarded a penalty stroke and
Anna Healey (Holland Patent) connected for the goal.
Ettere scored off a rebound with 2:19 remaining in the third quarter to make it 3-0. The Saints got on the board with 10:37 left in the game when Sydney LeClair scored near the left post off a pass from Hannah Gubbins. Cortland put the game away with two Corrigan goals in the final four minutes. The first came off a penalty corner insert, with a shot from the left side finding its way inside the left post, and the second one was also off a penalty corner situation on a shot from the middle of the circle.
Cortland outshot St. Lawrence, 38-5, and earned 16 of the game's 20 penalty corners. Cortland goalie
