Ettere and Corrigan Reach Milestones as #9 Cortland Hammers Morrisville 11-0

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) and Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) both reached career milestones on Saturday afternoon, as the nationally-ninth ranked Cortland field hockey team scored seven times in the second to break away in a 11-0 victory on the road at Morrisville. Cortland remains undefeated at 10-0 (3-0 SUNYAC) heading into a top-10 clash with nationally-eighth ranked York on Wednesday. Morrisville falls to 4-8 (0-3 SUNYAC) with the defeat.
 
Corrigan and Sidney DeMagistris (Gloversville) led all Cortland scorers with two goals apiece, with Corrigan eclipsing the 100-point mark for her career. Madeline Acevedo (Holland Patent) had a goal and an assist. 
 
Six others scored a goal for the Red Dragons, including the first career goals for Lauren Freudenberg (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) and Adrianne Mayes (Vestal). Carolena Purpura (Centerport/Harborfields), Isabel Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Gianna Trunfio (Clinton), and Ettere were among the other Red Dragons with a goal, with Ettere reaching 150 career points. Ava Passante (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) also chipped in an assist. 
 
In goal, Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) and Sofia Cannistraci (Guilderland) combined to make four saves for the shutout.
 
Emmaly Noeller made 12 saves in goal over the first 30:00, while Jillian Buczkowski made eight saves in the final 30:00. 
 
Cortland outshot Morrisville 14-0 in the first quarter, but was unable to break through as Noeller stopped seven shots on target in the frame.
 
The Red Dragons broke through in the second quarter, scoring seven times, including four goals in the final five minutes of the half. Adams got the scoring started on a rebound, and less than two minutes later, Ettere notched her 10th goal of the season. At 23:14, DeMagistris found the back of the net off of an assist from Passante. Cortland finished with a flurry of goals in the next minutes, with Corrigan tallying her ninth goal of the year. DeMagistris scored her second of the game only 54 seconds later, and Acevedo and Corrigan finished the scoring for the half. 
 
Cortland extended its lead to 9-0 in the opening two minutes of the second half thanks to goals by Trunfio and Purpura, and Cannistraci was able to make three saves in the frame to preserve the shutout.
 
Freudenberg's goal came off a rebound with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, and Mayes finished the scoring with a goal following a penalty corner with 1:04 remaining.
