CORTLAND, N.Y. – Katie Cosenza (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) assisted all three of the Red Dragon goals, and the Cortland women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over Oswego in SUNYAC action on Wednesday evening on Holloway Field. Cortland has now won three consecutive games and is 5-2-4 (3-0-1 SUNYAC), while Oswego falls to 6-5 (2-2 SUNYAC).
Cosenza's three assists were the most in a game by a Red Dragon since
Julia DeTurris's (Hicksville) three assists against Oneonta in 2022.
Haley Loscalzo (East Northport/Commack),
Tyla Vuotto (Lynbrook), and
Piper Klammer (Mahopac) each scored once for Cortland.
Kristen Spendal (Dumont, NJ) stopped both shots on target for her fifth shutout of the year.
Perri Anderson stopped five shots in goal for Oswego, while Brianna Winkler and Lynnane Russell each had a shot on goal.
Cortland controlled possession for most of the opening minutes, but the Red Dragons couldn't manage to break through.
Both teams had five shot attempts in the first half, with Cortland having three shots on target that were saved by Anderson. Meanwhile, the Red Dragon back line did not allow a shot on target as the game remained scoreless into halftime.
Oswego had its first great attempt in the 62nd minute, but Spendal dove to her right to deflect a shot from Winkler that was headed into the left corner of the net.
In the 72nd minute, Vuotto got behind the defense, but her volley on a lofted pass went wide left as Anderson rushed forward to impact the attempt.
Cortland broke the deadlock less than a minute later, as Loscalzo netted her second goal of the year after a cross from the right from Cosenza following a pair of shot attempts that were blocked by the Oswego defense.
Less than a minute later, Spendal was able to divert a shot by Russell wide of the post to maintain the Cortland lead.
In the 78th minute, the Red Dragons doubled their advantage on a brilliant goal by Vuotto. Taking a pass from Cosenza from down the left side, Vuotto curled a right-footed shot off the bottom of the crossbar and into the right corner of the net.
The Red Dragons closed the scoring with under four minutes remaining, as Klammer was played through on goal by Cosenza, and chipped a shot over the keeper for the 3-0 final score.
