#10 Cortland Wins 3-0 at Manhattanville in Season Opener

RYE, NY – Three different players scored for the Red Dragons, as the nationally 10th-ranked Cortland women's hockey team opened the season with 3-0 victory on the road against Manhattanville on Friday evening. Cortland goes to 1-0 with the win, while Manhattanville is now 0-1.

Kira Cook (Lake Ronkonkoma/Northwood School) and Taryn Raisanen (White Lake, MI/Trine University) both scored in their Cortland debuts, while Katie Mahoney (Toronto, ON/Toronto Leaside U22) scored Cortland's third goal.

McKenzie Brown (Peru/Lovell Academy), Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes U22AA), Meggan Cramer (Cicero/Northwood School), Drew Kopek (Rome/Syracuse Valley Eagles), and Kayla Persinger (Youngstown/Newark Ironbound 19UAAA) each had an assist for Cortland. Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) stopped all 10 shots she faced for the shutout.

Olivia Cimorelli made 26 saves for the Valiants, and Catrina Chinetti had three shots on goal.

Cortland needed just 1:46 to score the game-winning goal in the first period. Brown sent a shot from the right point that was saved, but Persinger crashed the net to pounce on the rebound, and swept a pass across the crease to Cook for a shot into the open goal.

The Red Dragons outshot the Valiants 9-4 in the first period, but Cimorelli made eight saves to keep the score 1-0 into the intermission.

Neither team was able to score in the second period, with Cortland once again holding a significant advantage in shot attempts in the period, 7-2.

The Red Dragons opened up a 2-0 lead less than a minute into the third period. Cramer sent a feed from beneath the goal line out to Raisanen, who wristed a shot of the goalie and into the net.

With over six minutes left in the third period, Cortland completed the scoring, as Kopek sent a centering pass to Mahoney, and the sophomore deked the goalie before finishing from right in front of goal.

Goergen stopped four shots in the third period, while Cimorelli made 11 saves in the frame.
