Rick Filighera Reaches 100 Wins at Cortland in 8-1 Win at Manhattanville

RYE, NY – The nationally 10th-ranked Cortland women's hockey team completed a 2-0 weekend on Saturday, defeating Manhattanville 8-1. Cortland improves to 2-0, while Manhattanville falls to 0-2 on the year. The win also gave head coach Rick Filighera 100 victories in his Cortland career. 
 
Kayla Persinger (Youngstown/Newark Ironbound 19UAAA) led Cortland with two goals and two assists, while Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes U22AA), Grace Karakas (Duluth, MN/Duluth East), McKenzie Brown (Peru/Lovell Academy), and Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles U19) each had a goal and an assist.
 
Drew Kopek (Rome/Syracuse Valley Eagles U19) and Meggan Cramer (Cicero/Northwood School) both contributed two assists apiece. Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) stopped seven shots over the first two periods, while Olivia Lumpiesz (Pinckney, MI/Biggby Coffee Hockey Club U19) made three saves in the third period. 
 
The Valiants were led by Catrina Chinetti, who scored their lone goal. Taylor Willoughby also blocked seven shots. In goal, Paz Hassan-Contreras and Jewells Austin combined to make 34 saves. 
 
Delacourt got Cortland on the board on the power play late in the opening period, with Persinger and Kopek providing the assists. Cortland held a 16-1 edge in shots on goal in the first period, but Hassan-Contreras made 15 saves to keep the score 1-0 into the intermission. 
 
The Red Dragons erupted for four goals in the second period to break the game open. Hlasnick scored just under six minutes into the period, with Natalie O'Brien (Lockport/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles U19) and Cramer recording the helpers. 
 
Katie Mahoney (Toronto, ON/Toronto Leaside U22) netted a second power-play goal for Cortland right before the midway point, her second goal of the season. Persinger followed with her first goal of the night just over three minutes later, with Cramer and Hlasnick assisting. Fanny Aneborn (Linkoping, Sweden/Lulea HF Sweden) netted Cortland's four goal of the period to lead 5-0 after two periods of play. 
 
Brown made it 6-0 Cortland under six minutes into the third period, with Karakas and Josselyn Drayson (Dallas, TX/Dallas Stars Elite) credited with the assists. Shortly after, Chinetti broke the shutout for Manhattanville with an unassisted goal.
 
Karakas immediately responded for Cortland less than a minute later, taking a feed from Kira Cook (Lake Ronkonkoma/Northwood School) and netting her first collegiate goal. 
 
Persinger completed the scoring for the Red Dragons with just over five minutes remaining with an unassisted goal.
