GLENSIDE, PA – Three different players scored a goal and five others registered an assist, as the nationally 11th-ranked Cortland women's hockey team defeated Arcadia 3-1 on Saturday evening in non-conference action. Cortland jumps to 5-2 with the victory, while Arcadia suffered its first defeat and drops to 8-1.
Katie Diem (Fairport/Niagara University),
Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles U19), and
Katie Mahoney (Toronto, ON/Toronto Leaside) each scored a goal for Cortland. It was Diem's first goal in her second game of the year as she ramped up for hockey season following the completion of the season for the Cortland women's soccer team.
Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) stopped 30 shots in goal for her fifth victory of the season.

Ellie Grinnals (Liverpool/Syracuse Valley Eagles 19UAA),
Natalie O'Brien (Lockport/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles U19, and
Drew Kopek (Rome/Syracuse Valley Eagles 19UAA) all had an assist for the Red Dragons.
Leah Hatcher was the lone goal scorer for Arcadia, while Berklee Hibbard and Grace Matthews were credited with assists. Hannah Bergeron made 24 saves for the Knights.
With under two minutes remaining in the first period, Arcadia had an opportunity to break the deadlock, but a shot from the left circle rung off of the crossbar. One minute later, Cortland scored at the other end, with Diem ripping a wrist shot into the left side of the net after a feed from along the boards from Grinnals.
Arcadia held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal in the opening period, but Goergen stopped all nine shots to maintain the Cortland lead into the intermission.
Cortland increased the pressure in the second period, looking to extend the lead. The Red Dragons had a pair of power plays, and a 9-6 edge in shots on goal, but were unable to score in the frame. Meanwhile, Goergen made six more saves to keep the score at 1-0 into the second intermission.
Early in the third period, the Knights equalized on Hatcher's goal as a puck shot from the point made its way through traffic past Goergen to make it 1-1.
Hlasnick gave the Red Dragons the lead for good less than a minute later, firing a shot into the left corner of the net after Cramer's initial shot from the blue line was blocked by an Arcadia defender.
Only 42 seconds later, Cortland doubled its advantage, as Mahoney found the back of the net for the fifth time this season.
Over the final minutes, Cortland committed a penalty, but was able to kill it off, and then withstood the final minute with an extra attacker for Arcadia after the Knights pulled their goalie.
