Cortland Defeats Potsdam, 94-83, in Nazareth Tourney Third-Place Game

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Five players scored in double figures as Cortland defeated Potsdam, 94-83, in the third-place game of the Nazareth University Mike Daley Memorial Tournament.
 
The contest is officially a non-league game; Cortland and Potsdam will meet twice in SUNYAC play, starting Dec. 6 at Cortland.
 
Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) led Cortland (1-1) with 23 points and 10 rebounds and he added three assists. Arcuri hit 7-of-14 shots, including three 3-pointers, and was 6-of-7 from the foul line. Jaylen Warmack (Utica/Utica Notre Dame) finished with 17 points, four assists and five rebounds. He also made three 3-pointers.
 
Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) registered 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Kendrick Wilson (Wheatley Heights/Moravia) hit three treys and ended with 11 points and three assists and Gerrad Beaubrun (Baldwin) hit 4-of-6 field goals and finished with 10 points.
 
In addition for the Red Dragons, Joel Davis (Watertown) pulled down 16 rebounds, 11 on the defensive glass, and Isaiah Austin (Albany) finished with five points, five rebounds and a team-high five assists.
 
Potsdam (0-2) was paced by Mohammad Sylla's 19 points, four assists, three steals and seven rebounds. Walter deFreitas scored 18 points, Nicholas Cortez added 16 points, and Parker Kelly scored 14 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Cortland went on a 13-4 run over the final four minutes of the first half to take a 52-35 lead. Warmack and Coston each scored 14 points in the opening 20 minutes. The Red Dragons' lead remained in double figures for most of the second half. Potsdam closed to within nine with 2:25 left and within eight with under a minute left, but Arcuri hit all six of his free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.

UPDATE: Arcuri was named to the all-tournament team.
