Cortland Clinches SUNYAC Second Seed with 30-Point Win vs. Buffalo State

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Five Cortland players scored in double figures as the Red Dragons defeated visiting Buffalo State, 86-56, to clinch the second seed in next week's SUNYAC women's basketball playoffs.
 
Cortland (17-7, 13-4 SUNYAC) closes the regular season at home Saturday versus Fredonia at 2 p.m., but regardless of that outcome the Red Dragons will be the two seed and will receive a bye into the league semifinals next Friday at New Paltz versus an opponent to be determined.
 
Emily Morano (Olyphant, PA/Mid Valley) scored 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) finished with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and a career-high eight assists, and Lily Woodis (Dewittville/Chautauqua Lake) also tallied 14 points.
 
Abby Wilkinson (Cato/Bishop Grimes) made all three of her shots from the field, two from 3-point range, and was 5-for-6 from the line and ended with 13 points, three assists, three rebounds and two steals. Logan Streety (Elma/Iroquois) made 6-of-11 shots and finished with 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Adiya Jones led Buffalo State (4-20, 1-16 SUNYAC) with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Chloe Hanson scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting and grabbed six rebounds.
 
Both teams shot well in the first half - Buffalo State at 57 percent and Cortland at 55 percent - but the Red Dragons led 50-37 at the break due to holding a 7-3 edge in made 3-pointers and a five-point advantage on the foul line. Cortland then put the game away by outscoring the Bengals, 21-4, in the third quarter.
