Ella Garrow finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke and swam the breaststroke leg on the third-place 400-yard medley relay team
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Cortland moved into second place after the second full day of competition at the 2024 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
Geneseo leads the field with 721.5 points. Cortland was third after Thursday's action but is now second with 397 points, narrowly ahead of third-place Brockport (376.5). Rounding out the eight-team field are Oswego (234), New Paltz (197), Oneonta (189), Potsdam (119) and Fredonia (101). The competition concludes Saturday at Erie Community College's Burt Flickinger Center.
Leah Bernhardt (Groton) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.76, and the 400-yard medley relay team of
Emily Lantry (Helena/St. Lawrence),
Ella Garrow (Peru),
Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) and
Alayna Miller (Hilton) finished third in 4:03.62.
The top three finishers in each event earn All-SUNYAC honors. Winners are first team, runners-up are second team and third-place finishers are third team.
Garrow finished fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.26) and Bryce placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (59.22). Lantry touched the wall fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.89, 1:00.52 prelims).
Areiannah Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) recorded sixth-place finishes in both the 100 backstroke (1:02.30, 1:02.28 prelims) and the 100 butterfly (59.70, 59.20 prelims) and
Madi Monaghan (Chili/Gates Chili) was sixth in the 400-yard individual medley (4:54.09). Also qualifying for the finals were
Kaila O'Hara (East Islip), who finished eighth in the 200 freestyle (2:02.36, 2:01.57 prelims) and
Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) in the 400 IM (4:58.49).
Emma Bogdanowicz-Wilson (Schenectady) won the "B" final in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.96 to place ninth overall. Miller was 11th in the 100 butterfly (1:01.70),
Rhianna Lynch (New Hartford) finished 12th in the 100 backstroke (1:06.36, 1:06.06 prelims) and Elsasser was 12th in the 100 butterfly (1:02.46, 1:02.26 prelims). Also scoring for the Red Dragons were
Mackenzie Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) with a 14th-place effort in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.94) and
Anna Stahurski (Oakdale/Connetquot) with a 15th-place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:09.13, 1:08.31 prelims)
