Red Dragons Fall to Mules, 12-10

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. – The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team scored four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to earn a come-from-behind 12-10 victory over Cortland Saturday in non-conference play in Colorado Springs. The Red Dragons fell to 3-2. The Mules improved to 3-5.

Sam Rothman (Dix Hills/Half Hollow Hills East), Caden Yancey (Fayetteville/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Sean Kavanagh (North Canton, ON/Hoover) each netted three goals to lead Cortland offensively. Nick Stoecker (East Setauket/Ward Melville) tallied a game-high five points on a goal and four assists.

Ryan Scanlon (Cornelius, NC/William Amos Hough) recorded two assists for the Red Dragons, while Josh Michel (Manlius/Fayetteville-Manlius), Bradley Cunningham (Syracuse/West Genesee) and Tucker Macknik (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) each picked up an assist.

Goalie Travis Wagner (Penfield) registered 18 saves for the Red Dragons. Stoecker scooped up four ground balls, Yancey and Travis Moehringer (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) secured three ground balls.

Tyler Kitchen, Jack Taub, Andrew Sellitto and Jack Bill each scored two goals for the Mules. Wyatt Malia recorded a team-high four points on a goal and three assists, Ryan May contributed a goal and two assists, Chase Kusko tallied a goal and an assist and Spencer Hallagan netted a goal.

Goalie Stephen Krug made 11 saves and scooped up two ground balls. Griffin Minuto won 17-of-26 faceoffs and collected three ground balls. Luke Schwartzberg secured four ground balls, and Matthew Regan picked up three ground balls.

Muhlenberg opened the game by building a 4-2 lead after the first quarter. The Red Dragons pulled to within 6-5 at the half as Yancey netted two of his goals in the second quarter.

After Kitchen put the Mules ahead 7-5 with a goal just 36 seconds into the third quarter, Cortland ran together five consecutive goals, three from Rothman, to go ahead 10-7. Hallagan's man-up goal late in the quarter made it a 10-8 Cortland advantage heading into the final 15 minutes of play. Muhlenberg cut into Cortland's lead with goals at 14:48 and 7:27 to tie the game at 10-10. The game winner came at 6:09 from Sellitto. Malia's goal at 1:58 put the Mules ahead, 12-10. Muhlenberg won the ensuing faceoff and called a timeout. Cortland took a late penalty, and the Mules ran out the clock to seal the 12-10 win.
