GENESEO, N.Y. – The Cortland women's lacrosse team scored four of the last five goals of the game to break a second-half tie and earned a 13-10 victory at Geneseo Saturday afternoon in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons improved to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Knights dropped to 5-3 and 1-1.
Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) poured in five goals to lead Cortland's offense.
Amy Hoeffner (Bay Shore) and
Ashley Melillo (Massapequa) each netted two goals.
Emma Dempsey (Brewerton/Paul V. Moore) tallied a goal and an assist,
Nicole Iapoce (Clintondale/Highland),
Mackenzie Beck (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) and
Isabel Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) each scored a goal and
Rachel Janis (Laurel/Mattituck) recorded five assists.

Margaret Morgan (New Fairfield, CT) registered 10 saves for the Red Dragons. Cashman, Janis and
Julie Kadletz (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading River) scooped up three ground balls apiece.
Rachel Rempe (Aquebogue/Riverhead) won four draw controls, and Hoeffner secured four draws.
Alaina Reina paced Geneseo's offense with three goals and an assist, while Caitlyn Korzeniewski netted a pair of goals. Molly Brown and Maddie Brown each tallied a goal and an assist, and Maira Brennan, Emily Salanger and Rachel Dickinson picked up a goal.
Goalie Emily DeJohn turned aside five shots. Tricia Curran finished with five draws, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sarah Ginnane caused four turnovers, Brenna secured four ground balls and Salanger won three draws.
Cortland jumped out to a 7-3 lead after the first quarter as Cashman scored four times. The Knights pulled to within 8-6 at halftime. Reina netted three of the first four goals of the third quarter to pull Geneseo even at 9-9. Hoeffner and Beck tallied back-to-back goals to close the quarter to put Cortland back ahead for good at 11-9. Iapoce made it a 12-9 game with an early fourth-quarter goal. After Brennan netted her goal just before the midway point of the quarter, Melillo capped the scoring at the 2:52 mark for the 13-10 final.
