ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally-24th ranked Cortland women's soccer team allowed a goal in each half, dropping a non-conference contest to Ithaca on the road on Wednesday evening by a final score of 2-0. Ithaca improved to 3-0-1 with the win, while Cortland suffered its first defeat of the year, falling to 2-1-1.

Tyla Vuotto (Lynbrook) each registered a pair of shots on goal for the Red Dragons, while senior goalkeeper
Kristen Spendal (Dumont, N.J.) stopped seven shots in goal.
The host Ithaca was powered on offense by two goals from Sarah Sinnott, while Ava Detorie and Allie McCabe each provide an assist. Goalkeeper Grace Hickey stopped all five shots on target for the Bombers.
Ithaca needed just over six minutes to open the scoring following its fourth corner kick of the game. The Red Dragons were able to partially clear the first cross from the corner out to Detorie, who sent a cross back in for a header by Sinnott into the back of the net.
Cortland had a chance to respond in the 9th minute, but Vuotto's shot into the bottom right corner of the net was saved by Hickey. Spendal had to make six saves in the opening half to keep the Red Dragons within a goal, as the teams kept the 1-0 score into halftime.
Ithaca netted a second goal under two minutes into the second half, as Sinnott finished into the top right corner of the net following another corner kick.
In the 80th minute, the Bombers were forced to play down a player after a red card, which allowed the Red Dragons to press higher up the field. Cortland had a pair of shots on target in the final ten minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net as Ithaca held on for the 2-0 final.
