DALLAS, P.A. – The nationally-12th ranked Cortland field hockey team scored a pair of goals in both the second and fourth quarters, earning a 4-0 win on the road over Misericordia on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons remained unbeated on the year, with a 5-0 record, the second consecutive year that Cortland has started the season with at least five straight victories. Misericordia fell to 2-3 on the season.
Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) scored a pair of goals for Cortland, while
Jamie Snyder (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) both scored once.
Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) made three saves in goal for her second shutout of the season.
Sarah Bogina made 12 saves in goal for Misericordia, while three different players had a shot on target.
The Cougars started out strong in the first quarter, with Morgan having to make a pair of saves to keep the game scoreless in the opening 10 minutes. Cortland had five shots in the period, but none were on target.
With just under four minutes remaining in the half, Corrigan got the Red Dragons on the board, scoring just shortly after a penalty corner. Snyder tapped in a rebound after the initial shot by Ettere was saved to double Cortland's advantage with just 10 seconds before halftime.
Out of the half, Cortland fired four shots in the opening 10 minutes, but once again, was unable to find the target with any of them. The Red Dragons held Misericordia to just one attempt in the frame, which was blocked.
In the opening two minutes of the fourth quarter, Morgan made another save to keep the Cortland lead at 2-0. Just minutes later, Ettere netted her fifth goal of the season to give the Red Dragons a 3-0 advantage.
Ettere's second goal of the game, and sixth of the season, came with 17 seconds remaining to seal the Cortland victory.
