Ettere's Hat Trick Leads #11 Cortland to 8-0 Win Over Ramapo

MAHWAH, N.J. – Senior forward Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) scored three goals and added an assist to lead the nationally-11th ranked Cortland field hockey team to an 8-0 victory over Ramapo on Wednesday afternoon. Cortland remains unbeaten on the year, with a 6-0 record, while the Roadrunners fall to 1-5 with the defeat.

Ettere's three goals came on a team-high seven shots on goal, and give her nine goals on the year. Senior Gianna Trunfio (Clinton) chipped in a goal and three assists. Graduate student Sydney DeMagistris (Gloversville) and seniors Jamie Snyder (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse), Carolena Purpura (Centerport/Harborfields), and Anna Healey (Holland Patent) each netted a goal for the Red Dragons. Senior Sydney Reinisch (Clifton Park/Shenandowa) and sophomore Olivia Specht (Baldwin) added an assist apiece, with Specht's helper being the first of her Cortland career.

Junior Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) did not face a shot on goal over the first 41:58 in goal, while Sofia Cannistraci (Guilderland) made two saves in goal over the final 18:02 for the combined shutout.

Michelle Kukan stopped 12 shots in goal for Ramapo, while Ana Plaia and Victoria Chavez each had one shot on goal.
Trunfio got the scoring started 5:44 into the first quarter, taking a pass from Reinisch and netting her fourth goal of the season. The Red Dragons continued to pressure Ramapo, and were able to double the advantage after the clock ran out in the quarter. After winning a penalty corner with seconds remaining for a continuation of play, Healey found the back of the net with a penalty stroke goal.

Cortland scored three times in the second period to take a 5-0 lead into halftime. Purpura netted her first goal of the year off of an assist from Ettere just over three minutes into the period, and DeMagistris also netted her first goal of the season less than four minutes later. Ettere netted her first goal of the game in the final minute of the half, assisted by Trunfio. Cortland held a 22-0 advantage in shot attempts in the opening half.

The Red Dragons extended the lead to 7-0 by scoring twice in a span of 1:58 early in the third quarter. Snyder scored at the 2:44 mark of the period, off of Trunfio's third assist of the game. Ettere then scored an unassisted goal at 4:42 for her second goal of the game. Ramapo had its first attempt on target with eight second remaining in the frame, with Cannistraci making the save.

Ettere completed the hat trick and the scoring for the game just 1:07 into the fourth quarter, with Specht picking us the assist.
