Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

#10 Cortland Takes Down Ithaca 2-1

ITHACA, N.Y. – The nationally-10th ranked Cortland men's soccer team scored in the second minute, and held the lead for the rest of the contest in a 2-1 victory on the road at Ithaca on Wednesday evening. Cortland improves to 6-1-1 on the year, while Ithaca drops to 4-2-0. Cortland continued its recent run of dominance over the Bombers, improving to 10-0-3 in the last 13 meetings of the sides.

Sophomore defender Jake Chung (Bellevue, WA) made his first start of the year and netted the first goal of his collegiate career. Senior Matt Shultz (Oneonta) scored his sixth goal of the season, which turned out to be the game-winning goal for the Red Dragons. Graduate students Mateo Marra (Ossining) and Jordan Miller (Jericho) both recorded assists, while junior Jordan Ott (Fort Worth, TX/Southwest Christian) made three saves in goal.

Jared Krasnove scored the lone Ithaca goal, while Andrew Kusak and Ikey Borden each had an assist. Goalkeeper Brayden Millbrandt made eight saves for the Bombers.

Cortland wasted no time getting the scoring started, with Chung finding the back of the net just 1:19 into the contest. Miller sent a long throw in from the right sideline into the box, where Marra was able to head the ball over to Chung, who was able to head the ball into the net past an onrushing Millbrandt to give the Red Dragons an early lead.

Cortland had another strong chance in the 20th minute, but Marra's free kick from ten yards outside the box was tipped over the bar. Shultz curled a shot just high and right with a little over a minute remaining, as the Red Dragons led 1-0 into halftime.

Out of half, Cortland continued to push for a second goal, but Millbrandt was able to make three saves in the opening 30 minutes of the half. The Red Dragons finally found a second goal in the 77th minute, as Shultz took a pass from Yasin Choukri (Wilton, CT), dribbled around two defenders, and netted into the bottom right corner of the net with a right-footed shot.

Ithaca scored to reduce the deficit with 3:09 remaining on a nearly mirror image of Cortland's first goal, as a flick on from a throw in fell to the feet of Krasnove for a goal.
