CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Clarkson on Saturday afternoon on Holloway Field. The Red Dragons moved to 2-2-3 on the year, while Clarkson is 3-3-1.

Junior Katie Diem (Fairport) scored Cortland's lone goal, with Katie Cosenza (Stony Brook/Ward Melville) providing an assist. Kristen Spendal (Dumont, NJ) made four saves in goal.

Callie Abel scored for Clarkson, with Chloe Hodge providing an assist. Isabelle Wood made three saves in goal for the Golden Knights.  

Cortland had a strong opportunity to open the scoring in the 13th minute, as Diem sent a free kick in behind the defense to Liz Allen (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury), but the shot was just off target. Clarkson saw a shot attempt glance off the left post in the 35th minute as the game remained scoreless into halftime.

Early in the second half, Allen sent a shot off the post for the Red Dragons in the 49th minute. Under ten minutes later, Allen was just high on a shot attempt after Cosenza had sent a pass inside the box to her.

Cortland finally broke through in the 64th minute, as Diem got her head on Cosenza's cross off a corner kick, sending it into the ground and bouncing into the top left corner of the net to give Cortland the lead.

The lead lasted less than a minute, as the Golden Knights were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area just outside of the box on the left side after a foul. Spendal was able to get a hand on Hodge's initial shot attempt, but Abel was in perfect position to tap home the rebound.

Both teams managed one shot on goal apiece in the final 25 minutes, with the goalkeepers each making a save on the attempts as the game ended level.
