DALLAS, PA. - The Cortland women's tennis team lost a 6-1 verdict at Misericordia University in a non-league matchup.
The Red Dragons evened their record at 3-3 with the loss. The Cougars were playing their season opener.
Emma Madigan (Endicott/Union-Endicott) earned Cortland's lone point with a win at third singles over Lydia Barbour. Madigan lost the first set, 6-3, but won the second set, 7-5. Madigan then won a super tiebreaker to 10 points, 10-5, in place of a full third set.
Misericordia earned the doubles team point with a sweep of the three flights. Barbour and Hailey Loughlin won 6-1 at number one and Erin Cridge and Gabrielle Chantiloup won 6-0 at number two. In a tight battle at third doubles, Isabella Aniska and Teresa Thomas outlasted Cortland's
JayLynn Robinson (Evans Mills/Indian River) and
Preston Fuerbacher (Fairport), 6-4.
Brianna Pizzano won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and Loughlin posted a 6-1, 6-4 win over
Mary Repass (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) at number two. Cridge was victorious on the fourth flight, 6-1, 6-0, Aniska won 6-1, 6-1 at number five, and Chantiloup fought past
Gabriella Stanley (Buffalo/Niagara Wheatfield), 6-3, 6-3, at number six.
