#10 Cortland Dominates Oswego, 8-0, in SUNYAC Opener

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally 10th-ranked Cortland field hockey team held visiting Oswego without a shot and the Red Dragons defeated the Lakers, 8-0, in the SUNYAC opener for both teams. Cortland remained unbeaten with a 9-0 overall record while Oswego dropped to 2-6.
 
Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) led Cortland with two goals and Isabel Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) finished with a goal and two assists. Jamie Snyder (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) registered a goal and an assist, while Carolena Purpura (Centerport/Harborfields), Ava Passante (Endwell/Maine-Endwell), Sydney Reinisch (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) and Gianna Trunfio (Clinton) each scored once. Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland) had two assists and Madison Oliver (Holland Patent) picked up one assist.
 
Oswego starting goalie Sam Krautheim made 17 saves in three quarters of action. Mia Foer stopped three shots and allowed one goal in the fourth. The Lakers also had defensive saves from Maddie Pflume and Alexa Snyder.
 
Cortland starting goalie Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) played the first 34:27 and Sofia Cannistraci (Guilderland) played the final 25:33.
 
Cortland led 2-0 after the first quarter on goals by Purpura, off a rebound after a shot hit the post, and by Corrigan, off a short pass from Adams. Passante's goal, also set up by Adams, made it 3-0 just over five minutes into the second, and Reinisch blasted home a shot off a penalty corner insert from Oliver 4:07 before halftime to make it 4-0.
 
The Red Dragons netted three goals in less than six minutes of the third quarter. Trunfio redirected in a shot from Ettere to make it 5-0 with 10:33 left in the quarter, followed by Corrigan with an unassisted goal with 6:49 remaining and Adams, off a pass from Snyder, with 5:23 left to push the lead to 7-0. Snyder capped the scoring with just 1:37 left in the game when she scored off a pass from Ettere.
 
Cortland outshot Oswego, 42-0, and earned 23 penalty corners to three by the Lakers.
 
Cortland continued SUNYAC play next Saturday at Morrisville at 1 p.m.
