ONEONTA, N.Y. – Cortland scored three goals in the third quarter to break open a tight contest and the nationally 15th-ranked Red Dragons shut out host Hartwick, 5-0, in a non-conference field hockey matchup.
 
Gianna Trunfio (Clinton) scored twice and Keirra Ettere (Mahopac/Lakeland), Hanna Corrigan (Barneveld/Holland Patent) and Jamie Snyder (Liverpool/Cicero-North Syracuse) each scored once for the Red Dragons, who improved to 3-0 on the season. Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) made three saves for the shutout.
 
Hartwick starting goalie Ashley Luppens recorded eight saves in just over 57 minutes of action. Ava Reynolds played the last 2:36 of the third quarter and did not allow any goals or make any saves for the Hawks (0-3).
 
Ettere provided the only goal of the first half when she scored on a reverse-stick shot 5:07 into the contest. The score remained 1-0 until Trunfio struck twice in less than a two-minute span early in the second half. She tallied 5:05 into the third quarter and again 1:34 later to extend the lead to 3-0. Corrigan scored from in close with 2:36 left in the third to make it 4-0, and Snyder knocked in a rebound with 1:04 left in the game to close the scoring.
 
Cortland outshot Hartwick, 22-5, and earned 14 penalty corners to two for the hosts.
 
Cortland will host 23rd-ranked Ithaca on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
