#10/9 Cortland Wins 2-1 in Overtime at Buffalo State

BUFFALO, NY – Fanny Aneborn (Linkoping, Sweden/Lulea HF Sweden) scored the game-winning goal 1:11 into overtime, and the Cortland women's hockey team, ranked 10th nationally by USCHO and ninth nationally by DIII Hockey News, opened up the 2025 year with a 2-1 victory on the road over Buffalo State in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Friday evening. Cortland improves to 8-2-1 (4-2-0 SUNYAC), while Buffalo State falls to 4-9-1 (1-7-1 SUNYAC).

Aneborn and Morgan Raymond (Kirkwood/Syracuse Valley Eagles 19UAA) each had a goal to lead the Red Dragons. Katie Mahoney (Toronto, ON/Toronto Leaside U22) and Meggan Cramer (Cicero/Northwood School) each had an assist. Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 26 saves for Cortland.

Mikala Gould scored the lone Buffalo State goal, with Liz Flores providing an assist. Jessica Auge made 36 saves.

Buffalo State got on the scoreboard to make it 1-0 late in the first period. The Red Dragons fired 13 shots in the period, but couldn't find the back of the net as the score stayed 1-0 into the first intermission.

Cortland pulled even just 2:13 into the second period, as Raymond knocked in a rebound from in front of goal after Cramer's initial shot from the left circle was saved.

The score remained tied through the second intermission. Midway through the third period, the Bengals hit the post on a shot on a chance to score the go-ahead goal.

With 22 seconds remaining in the period, Buffalo State committed a tripping penalty, giving the Red Dragons a power play for the final seconds and into overtime.

In the extra period, Aneborn sent a shot from the right circle through a screen into the back of the net for the winning goal.
