#9 Cortland Cruises to 8-0 Home Win Over Chatham

CORTLAND, NY – Drew Kopek (Rome/Syracuse Valley Eagles U19) and Kira Cook (Lake Ronkonkoma/Northwood School) each scored two goals, as the nationally ninth-ranked Cortland women's hockey team cruised to an 8-0 victory over Chatham on Tuesday evening at Alumni Arena. Cortland improves to 10-2-1 on the year, while Chatham falls to 1-10-1.

Including Kopek and Cook, seven Red Dragons had multi-point nights. Grace Karakas (Duluth, MN/Duluth East) had a goal and two assists, and Kayla Persinger (Youngstown/Newark Ironbound 19UAAA) had three assists. Natalie O'Brien (Lockport/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles U19) and Meggan Cramer (Cicero/Northwood School) both scored a goal and added an assist, and McKenzie Brown (Peru/Lovell Academy) registered two assists.

Olivia Lumpiesz (Pinckney, MI/Biggby Coffee Hockey Club U19) picked up her first shutout of the season, making 14 saves. Morgan Raymond (Kirkwood/Syracuse Valley Eagles 19UAA) scored the opening goal for Cortland.

Chatham's Samantha Brophy made 48 saves in goal for the Cougars.

Raymond got the scoring started 7:30 into the opening period, deflecting Persinger's initial shot from the right point into the corner of the net. The score remained 1-0 into the intermission, with Cortland holding a 13-6 advantage in shots on goal.

The Red Dragons struck for two goals in the span of 44 seconds early in the second period to make the score 3-0. Persinger sent a pass to Kopek down the right side, and the sophomore buried a wrist shot off the inside of the left post and into the back of the net at 2:01 of the frame. Seconds later, Cook got on the board for her fifth goal of the season. Gillian Dinsmore (Gorrie, ON/Saugeen Maitland Lightning) took a shot from the left point that was saved. Karakas pounced on the rebound and fed the puck over to Cook for a tap-in at the back post. The assist was Dinsmore's first collegiate point.

Karakas made it 4-0 late in the second period, knocking in a rebound after Brown had her shot for out front saved. The Red Dragons held a 20-6 advantage in shots for the period.
Cortland scored four times in the third period to secure the comfortable victory.

Just over four minutes into the third period, Cramer took a pass from Ainsley Delacourt (Stoney Creek, ON/Brampton Canadettes U22AA) and skated to the middle of the offensive zone, before firing into the left corner of the net.

At 8:59 of the period, Kopek scored from a tight angle after Katie Mahoney (Toronto, ON/Toronto Leaside U22) skated around multiple defenders and sent a pass across the crease to the back post. Cook poked home another rebound just over a minute later, and O'Brien completed the scoring by knocking in her own rebound after a pass from Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles U19) just over two minutes later.
