#14/12 Cortland Comes From Behind for 4-1 Win at SNHU

MANCHESTER, NH – After falling behind 1-0 in the second period, the Cortland men's hockey team, ranked 14th nationally by USCHO and 12th nationally by DIII Hockey News, scored four unanswered goals to earn a 4-1 victory on the road over Southern New Hamphire University on Wednesday afternoon. Cortland improves to 11-4, and 8-0 on the road, while SNHU is now 6-9-1 on the year.

Nate Berke (Williamsville/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) had a goal and an assist for Cortland, while Colby Seitz (Eden/Corpus Christi Ice Rays), Stephen Kyrkostas (Selden/Johnstown Tomahawks), and Johnny Facchini (Succasunna, NJ/P.A.L. Jr. Islanders) each provided two assists. Facchini now has eight points (one goal, seven assists) in the last three games.

Domenic Settimo (East Meadow/P.A.L. Jr. Islanders), Sam Christiano (Buffalo/Buffalo Jr. Sabres), and Nate Boak (Canton/El Paso Rhinos) each netted a goal for the Red Dragons. Shane Shelest (Pointe-Claire, QC/Wellington Dukes) made 10 saves in goal for Cortland.

Stone Devlin was the lone goal scorer for the Penmen, while Collin Berke allowed just three goals on 37 shots and made 34 saves for SNHU.

In the opening minutes of the contest, Dino Mannetta (Wading River/P.A.L. Jr. Islanders) rung a shot off the right post on the first scoring attempt of the game. The Red Dragons continued to increase the pressure on the Penmen over the next minutes.

With seven minutes remaining in the first period, Seitz was hooked as he attempted to deke the goaltender on a breakaway, leading to a power play for the Red Dragons. However, Cortland was unable to find the back of the net on the ensuing power play.

Christiano was denied on a breakaway attempt with under 30 seconds remaining in the period as the game remained scoreless into the intermission.

SNHU got on the board first with a goal early in the second period, as Devlin stole the puck in the Cortland offensive zone and went on a breakaway, before tucking a shot through Shelest's legs to give the Penmen a 1-0 just 3:08 into the period.

Midway through the period, Seitz puckhandled through the SNHU defense, drawing another penalty. The Penman were able to kill that penalty, despite two more shots on goal.

With just over six minutes to go in the period, Settimo knotted the score at 1-1. Facchini sent a pass from the Cortland zone to Berke down the right side, who skated past a defender and sent a drop pass back to Settimo for a quick wrist shot into the corner of the net.

The Red Dragons scored the game-winning goal early in the third period. Facchini passed to Kyrkostas behind the SNHU goal, who immediately slid a pass back out front for a quick wrist shot by Christiano 2:44 into the frame.

Cortland added an insurance goal midway through the period, as Seitz's initial shot was saved, but Boak pounced on the rebound in the slot and fired a snapshot into the left corner of the net. Kyrkostas was also credited with the secondary assist.

In the final minutes, the Red Dragons took advantage of a 5-on-3 power play, with Berke firing a wrist shot into the back of the net after a feed from behind the goal by Seitz. Conor Humphrey (Penfield/Rochester Jr. Americans) provided an assist to extend his points streak to five consecutive games.
