Oswego wasted little time equalizing, as Paone scored to tie the game less than three minutes later. The score remained tied until the final minute of play of the period, as Symons deflected a shot from the blue line past Cortland goaltender Ronan Mobley (Playa Del Ray, CA/New Hampshire Avalanche) to give the Lakers a one-goal advantage into the intermission.

Horacek made it 3-1 in favor of Oswego in the opening minute of the second period, with another deflection past Mobley.

Cortland scored two times in the span of 35 seconds to equalize at the 2:21 mark of the second period. Kyrkostas ripped a wrist shot past Oswego goaltender Brandon Milberg off a feed from Johnny Facchini (Succasunna, NJ/P.A.L. Jr. Islanders). Shortly after, Bernardo netted his second goal of the season from the left circle after a feed from Krieger.

Under a minute later, Oswego was handed a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct for a hit to the head. However, the Red Dragons were unable to take advantage of the power play. Shortly after successfully killing the penalty, Oswego's Brandon Cohen scored the eventual game-winning goal.

The Lakers then had a five-minute power play of their own after a major penalty for a hit to the head by Cortland with just over five minutes left in the period. Cortland successfully killed that penalty to keep the score at 4-3 into the second intermission.

Oswego put the game out of reach with four goals in the third period. Colin Vassallo extended the Lakers' lead to 5-3 in the opening minute of the period, and Oswego then scored twice in the span of 18 seconds to make it 7-3.
