Canton scored on its first shot attempt of the game, as Oloriz skated down the right side and was able to sneak a shot past Goergen inside the left post.
Five minutes later, the Red Dragons responded with two goals in the span of 20 seconds to take the lead for good. Cramer passed the puck to Hlasnick below the Canton goal line, who quickly slid a pass out front to O'Brien, who was able to get the puck into the back of the net on a rebound after her initial shot was stopped by Lenihan. Seconds later, Aneborn knocked in a rebound off of Mahoney's initial shot.
The score remained 2-1 until late in the second period. The Red Dragons committed a cross checking penalty with 5:32 left in the period. However, Cortland was able to score two short-handed goals to extend the lead to 4-1 at the intermission. Drayson picked up the puck near center ice after a pass from Delacourt, skated around multiple Canton defenders, and fired a shot into the top corner of the net with five minutes remaining. Just over a minute later, Aneborn fired a wrist shot from the left circle into the right side of the goal after a breakout pass from Brown.
Late in the period, Goergen made a strong save with her pads to keep the Cortland lead at three into the second intermission.
Canton had a few opportunities to score in the third period, including a breakaway near the midway point of the third period, but Goergen stopped all of them. The Roos pulled the goaltender for an extra attacker with just over four minutes remaining, and the Red Dragons were able to net an empty-netter to secure the win, as Cramer feed Kopek, and the sophomore netted her team-high eighth goal of the year with under a minute remaining.
