OSWEGO, N.Y. - Cortland battled in a number of matches but came up short in a 5-2 dual-match loss at Oswego in SUNYAC women's tennis action.

Cortland is 5-5 overall and 2-2 in SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons close out the league regular-season schedule at Oneonta next Thursday, and the outcome of that match will help determine whether Cortland qualifies for the four-team SUNYAC tournament Oct. 17-18 in Binghamton. Oswego (7-1, 4-1 SUNYAC) secured the tournament second seed with the victory.

Oswego claimed two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 team lead. Isabella Eason and Kate Hayes won 6-1 at third doubles, and Avery Borman and Ashlyn Feneck outlasted
Gabriella Stanley (Buffalo/Niagara-Wheatfield) and
Alexandra Thut (Poughquag/Arlington) at second doubles, 7-5. Cortland won at first doubles, with
Lisa Schulz (Mönchengladbach, Germany) and
Christina Massoni (West Babylon) posting a 6-1 victory.

Four of the six singles matches featured a set that was decided by a 7-6 score. Massoni won 6-4, 7-6 at second singles over Leah Bell, Borman defeated Schulz in three sets at first singles, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4, Emily DeLuca won over Stanley at third singles, 7-6, 6-4, and Eason beat Thut at fourth singles, 6-2, 7-6. (tiebreaker scores currently not available)

Cortland's other singles point, in addition to Massoni's win, came from
Olivia Kirch (Dexter/General Brown) with a 6-3, 6-3 win on the sixth flight. Hayes won 6-4, 6-2 over
Anneli Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) at fifth singles.
