CORTLAND, N.Y. – Hartwick's Hope Angioletti scored 1:52 into the second overtime to lift the visiting Hawks past Cortland, 2-1, in non-league field hockey action.
The teams were scoreless until Hartwick got on the board 1:43 into the fourth quarter. Angioletti took a penalty corner insert pass outside the circle and sent a ball that Kendal Woolley redirected into the cage.
Cortland answered just over three minutes later to tie the game. A shot by
Ava Passante (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) hit off the right post but went directly to
Gabriella Gemelli (Clinton) at the right post. She poked in the rebound for her first goal of the season.
Cortland missed on the only three shot attempts by either team in the first 10-minute, 7-vs-7 overtime period. In the second overtime, however, Hartwick capitalized on the only shot. The Hawks earned a penalty corner and Katelyn Klotz inserted a pass to Angioletti at the top of the circle. Angioletti dribbled into the circle and blasted home the game winner.
Cortland finished the game with a 16-5 advantage in total shots, and the Red Dragons earned 10 penalty corners to five for the Hawks. Hartwick goalie Ava Reynolds made five saves, and Brianna Cottrell registered a defensive save to deny a Cortland shot early in the third quarter. Cortland goalie
Emma Morgan (Whitney Point) finished with one save.
The Red Dragons play SUNYAC games this Saturday at Oswego and next Saturday, Oct. 25, at home versus Oneonta.
