Cortland Sweeps Plattsburgh to Complete Fifth Straight Perfect SUNYAC Regular Season

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Cortland women's volleyball team completed its fifth straight perfect SUNYAC regular season with a 25-14, 25-16, 25-16 win over visiting Plattsburgh.
 
The Red Dragons have finished 9-0 in conference play each year since 2021. Cortland (21-6 overall) will wrap up the regular season with non-league matches Nov. 8 versus Brandeis and William Smith, both at William Smith. Cortland will be the top seed and host of the SUNYAC tournament semifinals and finals Nov. 14-15 and will face either Fredonia or Buffalo State in the semifinals.
 
Emalee Ballou (Eden) led Cortland with 13 kills and ended with a .476 attack percentage. Lauren Millspaugh (Trumansburg/Charles O. Dickerson) ended with eight kills and one error in 10 attempts (.700 attack percentage) along with two blocks. Erica Arroyo (Nesconset/Smithtown West) and Kira Pirrera (Hauppauge/Smithtown West) each added five kills. Arroyo also posted two aces and Pirrera had two blocks.
 
Emma Reilly (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) finished with four kills, a .429 attack percentage and a team-high three blocks. Melissa O'Connor (Hauppauge) distributed 20 assists, Samantha Rodriguez (Camarillo, CA/Adolfo Camarillo) had 17 assists, and Alyssa Rich (Rochester/Churchville-Chili) led the team with 11 digs.
 
Plattsburgh (9-15, 2-7 SUNYAC) was led by Iris Mulvey with seven kills and Liya Girma with six kills. Kyleigh Ganz had a team-high four blocks.
 
Cortland finished the match with a .321 attack percentage (41 kills, 14 errors, 84 attempts). The Red Dragons hit better than .300 in each of the three sets. Cortland held Plattsburgh to a minus-.060 hitting percentage (20 kills, 25 errors, 83 attempts).
 
Cortland never trailed in the first or second set. The Red Dragons led 11-3 to open the first and 15-6 to begin the second. The third set was tied twice early at 1-1 and 2-2 before Cortland scored the next six points. Plattsburgh got back to within 13-10, but the hosts answered with a 5-2 run to take control.
