Cortland Falls to Amherst in NCAA First Round

GRANTHAM, PA – The Cortland women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Amherst in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs on Saturday afternoon in a four-team regional hosted by Messiah. Cortland finishes the season with a 14-3-4 record, while Amherst improves to 11-4-2 on the year and advances to face Messiah in the second round tomorrow.
 
Cassia Schuyler (Cincinnatus) recorded the lone shot on goal for the Red Dragons. Olivia Rouse (Springfield, VA/West Springfield) made three saves in goal.
 
The Mammoths were led by a goal from Jessica Lomo and Caroline Coletti. Lulu Fickes stopped one shot for the shutout.
 
The Mammoths recorded the first shot on goal in the 21st minute of the contest, a comfortable save by Rouse on Katie O'Reilly.
 
Schuyler had Cortland's lone shot in the game in the 40th minute, which Fickes was able to stop, as the game stayed scoreless into halftime.
 
Coletti broke through for Amherst with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute for a 1-0 lead.
 
Amherst was able to keep Cortland from registering a shot on goal over the rest of the game, and Lomo added an insurance goal in the 85th minute, assisted by Millie McLeod, to secure the victory.
