The Red Dragons opened the scoring just over five minutes into the contest. Karakas chipped the puck along the left boards back into the Cortland defensive zone to Mahoney. Mahoney then puckhandled around three Plattsburgh players, before juking the goaltender to slip a backhand into the top left corner of the net for her third goal of the season.Â
Plattsburgh tied the game just over three minutes later, as Morris ripped a shot into the corner of the net after a pass from below the goal line from Emily Kasprzak.
Cortland took advantage of a penalty for slashing on Plattsburgh with a power-play goal just before the midway point of the period. Aneborn sent a pass to Mahoney from the left point to the right side, and Mahoney skated past two defenders towards the Plattsburgh goal. Mahoney then fed Cook just to the right of the goal, and the junior found the back of the net with a quick flip into the top right corner for her fourth goal of the season. The goal gave Cortland two goals on three shots on target at that point of the game.Â
Mahoney created Cortland's third goal in the final minute of play in the first period, intercepting a pass in the Plattsburgh defensive zone, skating to the left faceoff circle, and sliding a cross-ice feed to the right for a one-timer by Aneborn into the back of the net.Â
Cortland led 3-1 at the first intermission, with each team recording seven shots on goal in the opening frame.
Plattsburgh pulled to within 3-2 four minutes into the second period, as Riggi knocked home a rebound from the right side after an initial shot was blocked away in front of the Cortland goal.Â
With under five minutes left in the second period, a Cortland penalty for slashing led to a power-play goal for the Cardinals to tie the score. Off a faceoff win at the right circle in the Plattsburgh offensive zone, Terry sniped a wrist shot through traffic into the top right corner of the goal to even the game at 3-3 into the second intermission. Plattsburgh held a significant 18-6 edge in shots on goal in the second frame.
Fesette netted the game-winning goal for the Cardinals early in the third period, as an initial shot from the left point by Taya Balfour was blocked by a Cortland defender in front, but the puck ricocheted to Fesette to the right of the goal, who knocked in the rebound into an open goal.Â
Cortland went on the power play with under five minutes left in the third period after a tripping penalty on the Cardinals, but Plattsburgh had two breakaway attempts short-handed that Gillodes needed to make a pair of excellent saves to keep the Red Dragons within striking distance.Â
In the final minute, Cortland pulled Gillodes for an extra attacker, but Plattsburgh came up with three huge blocks, two by Kasprzak, to prevent the Red Dragons from registering a shot on goal in the final minute to secure the victory. Â
