CORTLAND, N.Y. -
Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) scored 23 points, including a tip-in with 2:24 left in the second overtime to give Cortland the lead for good, and the Red Dragons outlasted visiting Oswego, 86-81, in the SUNYAC men's basketball opener for both teams.

Cortland improved to 5-1 with its fifth straight victory. The Red Dragons host Canton Saturday at 4 p.m. Oswego fell to 4-2 on the season.

Arcuri hit 9-of-14 shots from the field and also finished with 10 rebounds.
Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) made 8-of-10 shots and ended with 19 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Kendrick Wilson (Wheatley Heights/Moravian Prep (NC)) tallied 17 points and had three assists, and
Joel Davis (Watertown) finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Deacon Judd led four double-figure scorers for Oswego with 24 points, followed by Jayson McGhee with 20 points, Steven Bradley with 17 and Gary McLane with 11. McLane led the Lakers with 10 rebounds and nine steals, missing a triple-double by one steal. Judd and Bradley each grabbed six boards.

Cortland led 37-28 at halftime, but Oswego quickly closed its deficit to four points less than two minutes into the second half. The Lakers tied the game at 48-48 with 12:03 left on a Judd fastbreak layup, and Oswego eventually took its first lead since 2-0 when McLane hit a free throw with 7:56 left to make it 57-56.

The game remained tight from that point. Coston's layup with 1:43 remaining in regulation put Cortland up 69-67. Oswego missed two shots, but on Cortland's next possession McLane stole the ball and drove in uncontested for the game-tying layup with 54 seconds left. Cortland missed a 3-pointer with 24 seconds left and got the offensive rebound, but the Red Dragons turned the ball over right after that. Oswego was able to hold for the last shot but a jumper missed the mark.

Cortland went up 75-71 with 28 seconds left in the first overtime on a Coston layup. He was fouled but missed the free throw, and McLane was fouled and hit two free throws with 19 seconds left to close the gap to two. Cortland was able to break Oswego's ensuing pressure, but the Red Dragons missed a breakaway dunk, and the ball went out of bounds to the Lakers with less than eight seconds left. McGhee got fouled with 1.7 seconds left and hit both free throws to tie the game, and Cortland missed on a half-court heave to send the game to a second overtime at 75-75.

The teams were tied 79-79 with 3:02 left in the second extra session. Cortland missed a jumper with 2:29 left and the shot clock winding down, but Arcuri was able to tip the ball in to give the Red Dragons the lead. Oswego missed a shot on its next possession and Wilson buried a 3-pointer with 1:46 left to give Cortland a five-point lead.

McGhee's layup with 1:37 left made it an 84-81 game and Cortland missed a shot on its next trip up the floor. Davis blocked an Oswego layup attempt with 58 seconds left, and Cortland ran down most of the shot clock on the ensuing possession before missing a 3-pointer. Oswego missed a layup with 19 seconds left, and Wilson was fouled and hit both free throws with 14 seconds remaining to seal the win.
