Arcuri Reaches Career 1,000-Point Mark in 102-47 Win vs. Canton

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland senior Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) reached the career 1,000-point mark with a game-high 16 points as the Red Dragons' men's basketball team sailed past visiting Canton, 102-47, in a SUNYAC contest.
 
Arcuri hit four 3-pointers, the last of which finished his scoring for the day with 15:33 left in the second half and put him at exactly 1,000 points in his 87th career game. He also ended the day with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
 
Arcuri was one of five Cortland double-figure scorers. Joel Davis (Watertown) amassed 14 points, nine rebounds and a team-high six assists and Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) registered 13 points and 10 rebounds. Isaiah Austin (Albany) connected on three 3-pointers in a 13-point effort, and Nolan Raymond (Queens Village/Vermont Academy (VT)) scored 10 points.
 
Also for the Red Dragons (6-1, 2-0 SUNYAC), Gavyn Pacheco (Hopewell Junction/John Jay-East Fishkill) tallied nine points and Chris McDonald (Orchard Park) finished with seven points. Kendrick Wilson (Wheatley Heights/Moravian Prep (NC)) ended with four assists.
 
Jahdeuir Reese and Eugene Johnson Jr. led Canton (1-6, 0-2 SUNYAC) with 11 points each. Johnson pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, while Reese blocked three shots.
 
Cortland shot only 33 percent in the first half, but the Red Dragons turned 16 offensive rebounds into 18 second-chance points on the way to a 44-25 halftime advantage. Canton shot 50 percent during the opening 20 minutes but attempted only 22 shots to Cortland's 42.
 
The Red Dragons shot 60 percent in the second half compared to only 26 percent for the Roos. Cortland opened the second half on a 18-2 run, capped by Arcuri's third 3-pointer of the period for his 1,000th point, to take a 62-27 lead. Cortland finished the game with a 23-6 advantage in second-chance points and 26-6 lead in points off of turnovers as Canton turned the ball over 23 times to Cortland's seven.
 
Cortland is idle until it travels to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the Florida Sunshine Shootout Dec. 28-29. The Red Dragons will face Dubuque (Iowa) on the 28th and Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) on the 29th. Dubuque finished last season 20-6 and Gustavus Adolphus was 21-5.
