Cortland Women Earn Six Victories at USMMA Memorial Invitational

Emily Lantry won the 200-yard backstroke and led off the second-place 400-yard freestyle relay
KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Cortland women's swimming and diving team competed at the non-team scoring U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Memorial Invitational on Saturday. The meet featured competitors from Cortland, Merchant Marine, The College of New Jersey, Kutztown University and Maritime College.
 
Leah Bernhardt (Groton) posted two of Cortland's seven event victories at the meet. She won the 500-yard freestyle (5:14.22) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.51). Julia Bryce (Rochester/School of the Arts) won the 200-yard IM (2:20.05), Tristinye Martinez-Reyes (Queens/Benjamin Cardozo) won the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.74), Caitlin Elsasser (Merrick/Sanford H. Calhoun) finished first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.12) and Emily Lantry (Helena/St. Lawrence) took top honors in the 200-yard backstroke (2:13.69).
 
Bryce also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.58), while Cassidy Torres (Brooklyn/High School for Health Professionals & Human Services) was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.10) and Ella Garrow (Peru) placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.91).
 
Cortland finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with Lantry, Rhianna Lynch (New Hartford), Erin Galligan (Rochester/Our Lady of Mercy) and Bernhardt completing the race in 3:47.53. The combination of Lantry, Garrow, Bryce and Alayna Miller (Hilton) finished third in the 200-yard medley relay (1:55.02).
 
Cortland had the only divers who competed in 11 dives on each board. Alyssa Haberlack (Long Beach) led on both boards with 433.70 points on the 1-meter and 437.65 points on the 3-meter. Megan McLaughlin (Avon) was second on both with 422.15 points on 1-meter and 435.35 points on 3-meter.
