Cortland Strong Defensively in 70-38 Win vs. Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Cortland limited Oneonta to 10 first-half points and the Red Dragons' women's basketball team earned its eighth straight victory with a 70-38 win over visiting Oneonta.
 
Cortland (19-3, 14-1 SUNYAC) remained in first place in the SUNYAC standings, a half game ahead of New Paltz (14-2). Cortland hosts New Paltz Saturday at 2 p.m.; the Hawks are the lone team to defeat Cortland in league play this season.
 
Joleen Lusk (Cherry Valley/Cherry Valley-Springfield) led Cortland with 13 points and six rebounds. She made 6-of-10 shots from the floor. Sam Dembinsky (Wallkill) came off the bench to score 10 points in 13 minutes. She made all of her shots, two from 3-point range.
 
Four Red Dragons - Jackie Funk (Penfield), Adriana Fontana (Endicott/Union-Endicott), Lily Woodis (Dewittville/Chautauqua Lake) and Bella Zingoni (Kings Park/Long Island Lutheran) - scored six points each. Funk also recorded three assists and four rebounds. Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) and Kaeli McAnally (Islip) each finished with five points and five rebounds and Kayla Campbell (Franklin/Franklin Central) led the team with four assists.
 
Oneonta (10-13, 7-9 SUNYAC) was led by Amanda Zuntag's 14 points and eight rebounds. Nadia Brown totaled seven points and six assists.
 
Cortland led 12-7 after one quarter and outscored Oneonta 19-3 in the second quarter to take a 31-10 halftime lead. Oneonta was held to 14 percent shooting (4-for-29) over the opening 20 minutes. The guests got as close as 15 points early in the fourth quarter before Cortland went on a 15-2 run to put the game away. Cortland shot 54 percent in the second half and 48 percent for the game, including 7-of-15 from the 3-point arc. Oneonta shot 32 percent in the second half to end at 24 percent.
