OSWEGO, N.Y. - Deacon Judd scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Oswego defeated Cortland, 79-45, in SUNYAC men's basketball action at Oswego's Max Ziel Gymnasium.
Â
Oswego (16-8, 12-5 SUNYAC) and Cortland (13-11, 12-5 SUNYAC) are now tied for second place in the SUNYAC standings. New Paltz (13-4) has clinched the top seed for next week's SUNYAC tournament as it holds the tiebreaker over either Cortland or Oswego, or versus both combined if a three-way tie for first occurs.
Â
Cortland closes the regular season Saturday at Canton and Oswego will host Morrisville. Cortland needs a victory combined with an Oswego loss to earn the second seed in the SUNYAC tournament and a first-round bye. The Red Dragons are guaranteed no worse than third place, which would result in hosting a first-round game Tuesday.
Â
Kendall Arcuri (Staten Island/St. Joseph by-the-Sea) led Cortland with 19 points and also finished with seven rebounds and three steals.
Aaron Coston (Kerhonkson/Rondout Valley) finished with eight points, seven rebounds and three assists and
Joel Davis (Watertown) led the Red Dragons with nine rebounds.
Â
Gary McLane scored 13 points and added five rebounds and Xavier Allen scored 10 points and shared the team lead with Judd with eight rebounds for the Lakers. Ahkee Anderson registered seven assists and three steals.
Â
Oswego used a 20-1 run to turn a 14-8 lead into a 34-9 advantage over an eight-minute stretch in the first half. The Lakers led 39-14 at halftime and by at least 21 points the entire second half. Oswego shot 43 percent both overall and from 3-point range (9-for-21) while holding Cortland to 20 percent both overall and from the arc (7-of-35).
