#9 Cortland Wraps up Regular Season with 1-0 Overtime Loss to #4 Oswego

CORTLAND, NY – Rachel Corbett scored the game-winning goal 1:53 into overtime, and nationally fourth-ranked Oswego came away with a 1-0 victory over the nationally ninth-ranked Cortland women's hockey team in the regular season finale at Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon. Cortland falls to 17-4-4 (12-4-2 SUNYAC), while Oswego improves to 21-2-2 (15-1-2 SUNYAC).

Molly Goergen (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie H.S.) made 29 saves in goal for the Red Dragons, while Mia Hlasnick (Olean/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles 19U) won 9-of-11 faceoffs. Katie Mahoney (Toronto, ON/Toronto Leaside U22) and Hayley Hunter (Pulaski/NAHA 19UAAA) each fired four shots on goal for Cortland.

Corbett netted her fifth goal of the season for Oswego, and Helen Vandamme provided the assist. Lexi Levy stopped all 26 shots she faced in goal for the shutout.

Oswego had a strong start to the contest, holding Cortland without a shot on goal for the first 13 minutes of the first period. The Lakers held a 6-2 advantage in shots after one period of play, but the goaltenders were perfect to keep the game scoreless.

Cortland came out firing in the second period, with three shots on goal in the first minute of play. Levy made a save to deny Mahoney on a breakaway with a pad save, and then Hlasnick, and Gillian Zwolak (Stoney Creek, ON/Ancaster Avalanche MAA) shortly after.

With under six minutes remaining in the frame, Levy stopped Mahoney at close range and then came up with a sprawling save on the rebound attempt to keep the game scoreless through two periods. The Red Dragons held a 16-13 edge in shots on goal in the second period.

Three minutes into the third period, Levy once again made back-to-back saves, this time to prevent Josselyn Drayson (Dallas, TX/Dallas Stars Elite) and Hunter from giving the Red Dragons the lead.

Goergen came up with a tremendous save of her own with eight minutes remaining, stopping Jayden Kelley on a mini breakaway down the left side. The teams were unable to score in regulation, as the game with to overtime scoreless.

In overtime, Oswego scored on the only shot on goal of the period, as Vandamme stopped a Cortland rush at the boards and poked the puck out to Corbett. Corbett then skated from the Oswego defensive zone towards the Cortland goal, deked out a defender, and deposited the puck into the top of the net with a backhand.
