Josh Jeffes (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) have been named the SUNY Cortland Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 16.
Angelo Centrone
Angelo completed an incredible season on the mat with a runner-up finish at the 2025 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Saturday. He went 3-1 in the championship meet, winning his first two matches on Friday by decision to secure All-America honors. He extended his winning streak to 49 consecutive matches with an 8-6 semifinal victory over Wartburg's Kyler Romero, before falling in the championship match to top-seeded Hayden Brown of Johnson & Wales.
Amarian Hughes
Amarian claimed the national title in the triple jump at the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. He was second after his fifth overall attempt (second of the finals) at 15.23 meters. Dontre Sinegal of McMurry took the lead in the fifth round at 15.29 meters, then extended that lead in the sixth round to 15.33 meters. Amarian came up three jumpers later and recorded a jump of 15.35 meters (50' 4.5") on his final attempt of the competition to break his own school record of 15.34 meters.
Men's 4x400-meter relay
Cortland's 4x400-meter relay team of
Evan Jensen,
Zion Cheatham,
Harrison Gavalas and
Josh Jeffes claimed the national title at the 2025 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday with a school-record time of 3:12.59. In the opening heat of two in the finals, Wisconsin-La Crosse set the time to beat at 3:12.89. Competing in the second heat, Jensen opened in 48.81 seconds and Cortland was a close second behind leader Bethel after one leg. Cheatham posted a second leg of 48.19 seconds and took the lead late in his run. Gavalas recorded a leg of 48.67 seconds and extended the Red Dragons' lead, and Jeffes ran the final 400 meters in 46.94 seconds to give Cortland the heat victory, and the national title, by three tenths of a second over Bethel and Wisconsin-La Crosse.
