Cashman Scores 200th Career Goal as Cortland Defeats Hartwick 20-9

ONEONTA, NY – Toni Cashman (East Moriches/Westhampton Beach) scored six goals to become the sixth player in program history to reach 200 career goals, and the Cortland women's lacrosse team erupted for 20 goals in a 20-9 road victory over Hartwick on Wednesday evening. Cortland is now 2-1 on the year, while Hartwick falls to 0-1 on the year.
 
Cashman scored her six goals on seven shot attempts, and also provided three assists for the Red Dragons. Mia Mitchell (Akwesasne/The Hill Academy) chipped in four goals and an assist. Brooke Elizalde (Ronkonkoma/Connequot) netted three goals, Bella Dembinski (Holbrook/Sachem East) tallied two goals and an assist, and Emma Dempsey (Brewerton/Paul V. Moore) recorded two goals.
 
Trinity Parks (Port Crane/Chenango Forks) made nine saves for the victory in goal. Isabel Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) scored once, and registered four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Nicole Iapoce (Clintondale/Highland) added a goal and an assist, Rachel Rempe (Aquebogue/Riverhead) scored a goal and had four draw controls, and Natalie Bennett (Latham/Shaker) had an assist.
 
Kara Anderson scored four goals for the Hawks, while Kristen Vaccarelli recorded three goals and an assist and Katrina Marten provided four assists.
 
Hartwick got on the board first with a goal by Anderson just 2:22 into the first quarter. The Red Dragons responded on Rempe's first goal of the season less than two minutes later. The Hawks scored three more goals in the first quarter, and Cashman and Dembinski both scored for Cortland, as Hartwick held a 4-3 lead after one quarter.
 
After Hartwick scored the first goal in the second quarter, the Red Dragons erupted for 10 straight goals to close the half. Elizalde netted her first goal of the year off of an assist from Dembinski, then Mitchell drove to the cage from behind the goal and scored to tie the game at 5-5. With under 12 minutes left in the second quarter.
 
Mitchell then scored 20 seconds after her first goal to give the Red Dragons the lead. Over the final 11 minutes, Cashman scored 3 more times, Elizalde added a pair of goals more, and Adams and Iapoce each scored once to extend the Cortland lead to 13-5 at halftime. Elizalde's third goal of the quarter came with one second remaining on the clock.
 
Only 18 seconds out of halftime, Cashman scored her fifth goal of the game and 200th career goal. Mitchell followed with a goal 21 seconds later to make it 15-5. Hartwick netted a goal with 11:05 left in the quarter, before Cortland scored four straight goals, including two goals by Dempsey and one each by Cashman and Mitchell, to make the score 19-6. The Hawks scored once more in the third quarter, with the Red Dragons holding a comfortable 12-goal advantage into the fourth quarter.
 
Dembinski scored Cortland's lone goal in the fourth quarter, off an assist from Bennett, and the Hawks scored two times to complete the scoring.
