Cortland Blanks Host Fredonia, 7-0

FREDONIA, N.Y. - The Cortland women's tennis team posted a convincing 7-0 win at Fredonia to improve to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in SUNYAC play.
 
Cortland won the three doubles matches by a combined score of 18-3 to earn the team doubles point and grab a 1-0 lead. Lisa Schulz (Mönchengladbach, Germany) and Christina Massoni (West Babylon) won 6-0 at first doubles, Gabrielle Stanley (Buffalo/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Alexandra Thut (Poughquag/Arlington) won 6-2 at second doubles, and Anneli Adams (Burnt Hills/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Emma Morley (Buchanan/Hendrick Hudson) earned a 6-1 win at third doubles.
 
In singles action, Schulz blanked her opponent, 6-0, 6-0, on the first flight and Massoni won 6-0, 6-1 at number two. Stanley was a 6-2, 6-1 victor at third singles, Thut won 6-2, 6-1 at fifth singles and Morley won 6-1, 6-1 on the sixth flight. The closest match of the day came at fifth singles, where Adams battled the Blue Devils' Amelia Stathatos. Adams on the first set, 6-3, and the second set, 7-6, after a 7-5 win in the tiebreaker.
 
Cortland will host Houghton in a non-league match Tuesday at 3 p.m. in a make-up of a postponed contest from early September. The Red Dragons return to league play Wednesday at Oswego at 3 p.m.
