Red Dragon Men Register 164-79 Dual-Meet Win at New Paltz

James DuTremble won both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle races
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Cortland men's swimming and diving team won 10 individual events, including two each by James DuTremble (Pleasantville/Briarcliff) and Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central), and took the top two spots in each relay in a 164-79 dual-meet victory at New Paltz
 
DuTremble won the 100-yard freestyle in 50.78 seconds and the 200-yard freestyle in 1:51.69. Dickman captured the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.81 and the 100-yard butterfly in 53.83 seconds.
 
Three Red Dragons earned both a first-place and second-place individual showing. Jacob Cerrato (Beekman/Arlington) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.12) and was second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.44). Liam Byrons (Skaneateles) was the 500-yard freestyle winner (5:16.05) and was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.36), and Conner Utter (Manassas, VA/Patriot) finished first in the 200-yard IM as an exhibition entry (2:08.74) and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:27.79).
 
Colin Veit (Port Jefferson/Earl L. Vandermeulen) won the 100-yard backstroke (57.75), Eliseo Fernandez (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) was the 200-yard backstroke winner (2:00.30), and Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.41).
Fernandez, Veit, Lukas Struble (Middletown/Minisink Valley) and Jack Clark (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) won the 400-yard medley in 3:46.59, while Michael Scamacca (Rochester/Spencerport), Dariusz Sargent (Holland Patent), Dickman and Utter finished second in the 3:52.96. Cortland's 400-yard freestyle relay entries were technically exhibitions due to the team score - Monaco, Veit, Clark and Fernandez had the best time in 3:18.78, and DuTremble, Jackson Vegliando (Newburgh/Newburgh Free Academy), Ayden Baxter (Marlboro) and Dickman had the next best effort in 3:27.16.
 
In addition, Baxter was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:51.48), Michael DeMarco (West Milford, NJ/Passaic County Tech. Institute) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.97), Scamacca was runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.24), Struble placed second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:11.52), and Michael Tomasino (Lake Grove/Sachem North) was second as an exhibition entry in the 200-yard IM (2:18.03).
 
No diving events were conducted as there is no diving setup at New Paltz.
 
Cortland returns to action next weekend at the RPI Kumpf Invitational on Saturday and the Hobart/William Smith Diving Invitational on Sunday.
