Cortland Men Post 131-86 Dual-Meet Win at Oneonta

Liam Byrons won the 500-yard freestyle
ONEONTA, N.Y. – Fueled by nine victories, the Cortland men's swimming and diving team defeated host Oneonta, 131-86, in dual-meet action.

The Red Dragons will host Oswego in a dual meet Saturday at 1 p.m., and Cortland also will send divers to Ithaca College on Sunday for the Dick Comanzo Diving Invitational.

Kellen Dickman (Montgomery/Valley Central) finished first in two races at Oneonta, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 22.89 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke as an exhibition entry, due to the team score, in 1:02.32. James DuTremble (Pleasantville/Briarcliff) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.67) and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (50.88).

Liam Byrons (Skaneateles) was the 500-yard freestyle winner (5:10.68), Colin Veit (Port Jefferson/Earl L. Vandermeulen) won the 200-yard IM (2:04.36), and Eliseo Fernandez (Poughkeepsie/Roy C. Ketcham) was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle (50.34). The combination of Aiden Ramirez (Suffern), Dariusz Sargent (Holland Patent), Veit and Peter Brelesky (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:41.36.

Since Oneonta only has a 1-meter diving board, the divers completed 11 dives on that board and the scores were broken down into "5 dive" and "6 dive" scores for team scoring. Calvin Eggleston Antwerp/Indian River) recorded a total score of 408.50 points and was first in both breakdowns (240.60 for six dives, 167.90 for five dives). Kensington Wilck (Newark) finished second in the five-dive component (134.40) and third in the six-dive component (196.50) for a total score of 330.90 points.

Brelesky placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (23.66), Ramirez finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (56.99), and Sargent was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.38) as an exhibition entry. Lucas Gannon (Schenectady/Mohonasen) was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.26).

Other Cortland second-place finishers included Ayden Baxter (Marlboro) in the 200-yard IM (2:09.16), Dylan Monaco (Lynbrook) in the 100-yard butterfly (56.07), and Lukas Struble (Middletown/Minisink Valley) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.67).
