Cortland Wins at Buffalo State, 78-47, Behind Balanced Scoring Attack

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Seven Cortland players scored between eight and 10 points and the nationally ranked Red Dragons extended their winning streak to 13 games with a 78-47 win at Buffalo State.
 
Cortland is ranked 22nd nationally by D3hoops.com and 20th by the WBCA. Sophie Bissaillon (East Greenbush/Columbia) led the Red Dragons (15-2, 10-0 SUNYAC) with 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks and Brooke Tillotson (Marathon) hit 4-of-6 shots and ended with 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Megan Milleville (Cambria/Starpoint) scored a career-high nine points and added five rebounds and three assists in 15 minutes off the bench.
 
Cadence Nicholas (Cortlandt Manor/Walter Panas), Jackie Funk (Penfield), Bella Zingoni (Kings Park/Long Island Lutheran) and Sam Dembinsky (Wallkill) each scored eight points. Nicholas made all four of her shots and handed out three assists in 13 minutes. Funk finished with six rebounds and three assists, Zingoni was 3-of-4 from the field and had three rebounds and two steals, and Dembinsky grabbed four rebounds.
 
Also for the Red Dragons, Joleen Lusk (Cherry Valley/Cherry Valley-Springfield) scored six points, pulled down eight rebounds and blocked two shots, and Charli Bennett (Aurora/Southern Cayuga) registered three assists and two steals.
 
Cortland shot 55 percent from the field (33-of-60), including 12-for-16 accuracy in the second quarter and 11-of-15 in the fourth quarter. The Red Dragons recorded 24 assists on 33 made baskets.
 
Buffalo State (2-15, 1-9 SUNYAC) was led by Naya Haymon with 20 points, five steals and four assists. She made 7-of-13 field goals, including 4-of-6 3-pointers. Amya Moore finished with six rebounds and three steals and Emily Delisle totaled four rebounds and three assists. The Bengals shot 31 percent from the field.
 
Cortland led by only three, 23-20, with 5:10 left in the second quarter before going on an 11-0 run in less than two and a half minutes. Funk started the run with two free throws, Dembinsky hit a layup, Bissaillon scored a pair of buckets, and Tillotson closed the run with a 3-point play to put Cortland up 34-20. The Red Dragons led 42-25 at halftime and 54-34 after three quarters.
 
Cortland continues its stretch of road games with contests Friday night at Oneonta and Saturday afternoon at New Paltz.
